  • The Batman - Officially licensed poster (Bottleneck Gallery) - The Batmobile 🦇

The idea behind this component was to have it look as though it was a print out of some kind of traffic camera that has picked up the Batmobile as it’s speeding down the highway. I tried to follow a loose chronology within the poster; with this image taking place during the Penguin chase shown in the movie. The date in the upper right corner is when this chase takes place in the movie, with the time being approximated. For the co-ordinates on the upper left corner, they actually point to the Eastside Freeway in New York, which I thought would make a fitting real life approximation for the Eastside Freeway shown in the film.

On the image of the Batmobile itself I wanted the blue jet flame exhaust to create video compression artefacts from the light, to give the impression this is a shot from a video feed.

  • The Batman - Officially licensed poster (Bottleneck Gallery) - Polaroid photos: Pete Savage, Gil Colson, Jim Gordon, and Don Mitchell Jr.

I wanted a way of displaying some of the characters involved in this story throughout the poster, but committing to having the entire artwork be made up from ‘physical’ objects posed some challenges. It makes it more difficult to pepper in smaller portraits throughout, so I thought a good way of doing that would be with some Polaroid style photos. These are rendered at 1:1 scale, so a traditional Polaroid photo should line up with that on the printed poster.

These were a lot of fun to paint as smaller individual pieces.

  • The Batman - Officially licensed poster (Bottleneck Gallery) - Instagram carousel created for social media promotion of the poster release.

The poster was painted to a 1:1 real life scale – meaning that every element you see here was made at actual size. The polaroid photos for example will appear to scale on the printed poster. The same goes for the width of the different types of tape, the newspaper and so on. I wanted the whole thing to feel tangible and like a snippet of a real wall of images and cuttings.

Throughout the collection of pieces are various different textures and finishes to help convey the idea that these are all different paper types and materials.
